Sharing Stories at the Sun Kong

Over 80 attendees packed the function room at the Sun Kong restaurant on Saturday, March 30 to enjoy dinner and an evening of “Stories Only You Can Tell,” personal stories told by community members, honed under the direction of CD Collins, a local author, poet, and spoken word artist.

Attendee Ewa Erdman expressed her reaction to the event. “It amazed me that in each story, I was easily able to identify some specific aspect that really rang true in my own life, regardless of “barriers” of culture, gender, age, etc.  Just goes to show you that people are people, and the barriers are often artificial.”

Hilary Banda, a new resident to Malden and first-time attendee at a Malden Reads event, said, “The event made me fall in love with Malden a little bit more.”

Many thanks to the Sun Kong restaurant, Malden Reads volunteers, CD Collins and all our storytellers: James Blandini, Mai Du, Anne D’Urso-Rose, Diana Jeong, Emmanuel Marsh, Rev. Otto O’Connor, and Mekka Smith.

“Storytelling at the Sun Kong” was supported in part by a grant from the Malden Cultural Council, a local agency, supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
