Book Discussion with Robin Fast

Join us for a special book discussion on poetry, history, and healing, featuring Malden resident & Emerson College emerita professor Robin Fast. An American Sunrise is infused with history. In interviews, Joy Harjo has expressed the hope that her poems will be useful, that they will contribute to healing and to love. We will start by looking at “My grandfather Monahwee” (page 5 in “An American Sunrise”), which draws on Muscogee history. We will then consider how some other poems address history and reflect Harjo’s interest in healing, including “For Earth’s Grandsons” (page 56). Other poems will be discussed (time permitting!).
